Mission Statement

Our mission is to supply high-quality rig equipment to our customers that is safe, reliable and efficient. Deliver the products on-time and support the products in the field through a combination of engineering and service excellence.

Our focus

Warrior's present and long-term focus is on the design and manufacture of technically advanced rig components including top drives, automated tubular tongs (iron roughnecks), drawworks (AC & hydraulic), and to expand its repair and service capabilities. Many of Warrior's management and engineering group members have been in the industry since the early 1980s and have designed, developed and manufactured drilling rig components.

Warrior holds an API 8C license for design and manufacture of drilling and production hoisting equipment as well as API Q1 and ISO 9001 quality certifications.

Warrior also has many other designers, shop, and field technicians with extensive oilfield and tubular handling experience.

Our Leadership Team

Warrior consists of highly experienced oilfield manufacturing, engineering, and service personnel. The majority of the management team has been in the top drive business for an average of 15 to 20 years and has been involved in all facets of the business including design, manufacturing, testing, repair, and field service.

Tom Whalen, President

Tom brings over 35 years of domestic and international industry experience to the position. Mr. Whalen is a former President and CEO of the Petroleum Services Association of Canada, as well as a former director of the PSAC Board. Previously he held many positions during his tenure with Baker Hughes including, field manager, district manager, business unit manager, country manager, Vice President of Marketing for Canada and the enterprise Vice President of Water Management and most recently, President & Managing Director of Baker Hughes Canada. Mr. Whalen also sits on the boards of four Calgary based organizations; the Women in Need Society, Little Rock Resources Ltd., Drillform Technical Services and Panoptic Automation Solutions.

Mike Moellenbeck, C.E.T., SR VP - Operations

Mike is responsible for managing all aspects of manufacturing and materials and for establishing Warrior's quality program. Mike started at Canrig in 1988 and was involved in the design of the first Canrig top drives. Prior to that, Mike worked with a rig design and engineering company in Edmonton and more recently worked with Crown Industries and Tesco. Mike has more than 28 years of experience in the design and manufacture of drilling and service rig equipment and has worked in the U.S.A. and internationally.

Allan Richardson, P.ENG., SR VP - Technology

Allan has recently been responsible for the concepts and development of the Zipper SmartRig and Continuous Drilling System. He holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan and has over 37 years of industry experience including drilling engineering, equipment design, management and executive positions at Petro-Canada, Canrig Drilling Technology, Drillnovations and Warrior. As a serial innovator, Allan is the principal inventor for numerous patents.

Peter Root, P.ENG., Rig Automation Development Manager

Peter has participated significantly in the development of the Zipper SmartRig. He has worked primarily in drilling equipment design and intellectual property protection, with associated roles in business development and marketing, since graduating from the University of Victoria’s Mechanical Engineering Program in 2012.
