BRIEF DESCRIPTION

 The Electrical Design Engineer is a technical lead engineer for the design of the advanced automated oilfield equipment.. This position reports to the Engineering / Project Manager.

Detailed Description

  • Designs electrical components for advanced automated drilling equipment
  • Supervises a team of technical professionals
  • Create conceptual designs for assigned projects
  • Prepares engineering reports
  • Testing and troubleshooting in the shop and, on occasion, in the field as required (occasional travel may be required)
  • Make technical decisions and resolve engineering roadblocks
  • Perform electrical studies and calculations as required
  • Approve engineering documents, schematics and electrical equipment assemblies
  • Prepare or approve specifications for purchase of materials and equipment
  • Maintain up-to-date electrical engineering knowledge and stay current with industry trends and best practices

Job Requirements

  • Proven track record of innovative design solutions
  • Knowledge in AC electric motors and drives
  • Knowledge of PLC programming and HMI devices an advantage
  • Knowledge in electric and control panel design
  • Experience using CAD software (preferably EPLAN and SolidWorks or AutoCAD)
  • Knowledge in national and international electrical codes and standards
  • Strong computer skills with ability to utilize Microsoft Office Software, e.g. MS Word, PowerPoint, Project, Excel etc., and other discipline specific-software applications to drive efficiency in productivity
  • Must be self-motivated, with the ability to oversee and motivate others and influence decisions, capable of identifying problems and recommending alternative solutions
  • Must be a self-starter able to take initiative, make decisions and drive for results. Must demonstrate a high level of professional integrity and demeanor
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective presentations and written report preparation
  • Able to effectively make technical decisions and manage change requests
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage cross functional teams, manage conflict and provide for development of staff

Minimum Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering degree. Technologist diploma may be acceptable with suitable experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical design
  • 3+ years of experience supervising a team of technical, engineering or design professionals
  • APEGA or ASET member or eligibility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the design of oilfield drilling equipment
  • Experience with electrical manufacturing
  • Expertise in hazardous area classification

Additional Details

Work is primarily in a climate controlled / office environment with minimal safety / health hazard potential. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, or walk with occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending and frequent near vision use for reading and use of computer, telephone and other office equipment.
